Start organising your bathroom renovation with these 3 steps

1. Make a plan and get a quote from the renovation contractor
Set your budget, timeline and desired outcome. While planning, do consider your needs and preferences. Think about the following:
- Your overall home style: What style and design will fit in your home style?
- Your family’s development stage: Do you need senior friendly or child friendly bathroom designs?

2. Assess the condition of the bathroom with the renovation contractor
Before confirming the renovation plan, do a site visit with your renovation contractor to assess the condition of the tiles, pipes and existing fixtures. This will help you to better plan your budget and design. If you are on a tight budget, your renovation contractor can advise you on cost saving methods when assessing the bathroom condition.
If your renovation contractor also provides interior design services, the interior designer will also plan a design that you like while taking into consideration the existing tiles or fixtures you would like to keep.

3. Ensure licenses are in place and permits are applied for
If you are renovating your HDB flat’s bathroom, check the HDB website for guidelines on bathroom renovation works. Do ensure that works such as piping and toilet pan installations are carried out by a licensed PUB plumber, while a gas water heater has to be installed by a licensed gas service worker. It is highly recommended that you make a site visit during the renovation process to ensure that the workers are licensed.
